About

What is ‘Groovizm’? It’s just a word I came up with when I was searching for something that sounds cool and gives you an idea what my music is about. So, yeah, it must groove. Like Fred Astaire said; ‘what’s the point if you can’t dance to it?’.

I was born Huddie Klein in Amsterdam in 1972. I studied classical guitar at the ‘Sweelinck Conservatory of Music’. At the time I was very much into Jazz (Herbie Hanckock, John McLauglin) and contemporary classical music (Strawinsky, Debussy and Webern) and I also liked to play electric guitar, blues and jazz mainly. In 1991 I bought myself a Korg 01w, and started composing and recording my own songs. Influences then were Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Elton John.

In 2000 I moved to Amersfoort and started as a volunteer for De Kelder (the basement that means), a small club where bands play and dj’s spin their records. I work there as a sound engineer, but listening to dj’s finally gave me an ear for dance-music and I’ve been working on dance-oriented material since.

I still love my guitars, but the tracks you hear on this website are really what I like to do best. Teaming up with dj’s live on stage (thanks Ted, Huib and Raymond!) was a great experience and started the groovizm-thing. Influences now are Trentemoller, Moloko, James Holden, Way Out West, Delerium, Markus Schulz, Mathias Schaffhauser, John Digweed, Martin Roth, Petter, Adam Beyer.

You find me also on hyves (in dutch) and myspace.

Stuff

My studio is mostly software, I’m fooling around with al lot of it, but 95% of the music on this website was done with Reason!

  • Apple iMac 20″ core2duo
  • Apple Logic Studio
  • Propellerheads’ Reason and Recycle
  • Ableton Live
  • Native Instruments Reaktor, Kontakt and Battery
  • Korg 01W digital synthesizer workstation
  • Clavia NordLead2
  • Soundcraft Compact4 Mixer; flexible routing in a very small mixer.
  • Behringer BCR2000, midi-controler
  • Tannoy Reveal Active studiomonitors.
  • Studio Projects large diaphragm, condenser microphone and (tube)pre-amp.

Ofcourse I have some guitar stuff as well, I play those just for fun, don’t use them very much on dance tracks:

  • Bo-El, custom build electric guitar, made in Zutphen, holland.
  • Ibanez SG 1972, nice when my parents gave it to me for my 13th birthday and it has been getting better with age…
  • Fender Swamp-ash Stratocaster re-issue
  • Fender Concert60 tube amp. Design by Paul Rivera, kind of Twin in a smaller combo.
  • Now and then I buy a stompbox, but they get used very little, because I always find they mess up the sound…
